I'm slowly beginning to realize that finding a good Chinese restaurant in a new city, is about as hard as finding a reason to listen to the new Alicia Keys record. Since I've moved to VA, I have yet to find a Chinese spot as exquisite and pleasantly addictive as the Hong Kong Express back home. So tonight, I figured I would try one of those "fancy" Chinese restaurants. You know the ones that aren't strategically located next to the liquor store in your local shopping center. While I was certainly pleased with the way the food was presented, their sweet and sour chicken was definitely no match for Hong Kong Express. I don't even know if there is anything that's so special about Hong Kong, but once you get accustomed to a particular taste it's hard to let that taste go. A Big Mac in DC will taste the same as a Big Mac in Alaska. Why can't all Chinese taste the same?

ReplyDeleteYou're being too hard on Alicia, dawg. lol.
ReplyDeleteI was highly disappointed with that A. Keys CD...sorry
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! I can totally relate. I'm from Chicago, but have been living in New York City for the past 5 years and have yet to find a Chinese restaurant that matches or even comes close to the spots around my house in Chicago!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I go back home, I always head for my favorite Chinese restaurant!
oh man.. chinese food in northern va is damn near non existent. the other night i was so desperate for chinese food i went to f'ing pf changs.
ReplyDeleteThe only place that you need to go is P. F. Changs. That's my favorite. There is someplace in downtown DC that my Aunt swears by, but I forgot the name. It's not that far from GW. Cool blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where you live in the Northern VA area, but if you live near or in Fairfax, check out Peking Village 2. It's across the street from the high school Paul VI on Lee Hghway. The owner is really cool and they use only the freshest ingredients which prove to be a great meal. It's pretty cheap too.
