speaking of the devil...

So just the other day I said seeing Mos Def perform live was one of the things I wanted to do before I die. Now I don't know if I should take this as a sign of my untimely demise, but....guess who is coming to DC on Sept. 21??!! Yessir!! The Mighty Mos Def will be performing at the historic Kennedy Center. So yeah I will definitely be in the building.

Thanks to DC Fab! for bringing this to my attention.

back to one...

Ok, so I am completely BORED out of my mind. I have been sitting around all day watching OnDemand movies and fucking around on the internet. There really isn't shit to do on this internet but I have nothing else to do, so I just sit around and check blogs all day. I really hate to say this but I can't wait to start working again...but I don't mean teaching. I picked up a summer job that will start when I come back from my trip home. I've just been so bored. And If I get out the house then I'm going to end up spending money on shit I don't need. So while browsing around the blogosphere I came across this little survey, stolen from HERE.

Ten random things about me...
10. I love eating leftover spaghetti...It always taste better the second day.
9. I hate cold weather. DC in the winter sucks!!
8. Rob Base's "It Takes Two" was the first song I ever memorized.
7. I just recently acquired a fondness for Michael Jackson's Off The Wall, it's still not better than Thriller but it's close.
6. I actually like this season of MTV's Real World. It's the first season I have watched in its entirety since the Las Vegas season.
5. I have a horrible memory.
4. I feel really weird calling my ex-girlfriend, my ex-girlfriend.
3. My favorite movie is E.T.
2. My mother and I lost everything we owned in a hurricane when I was 9 years old. All my damn G.I. Joes :(
1. I had braids for one day. I just couldn't go any longer growing my hair out. It was a really bad look...lol

Nine ways to win my heart...
9. Tell me Mary J. Blige's My Life is your favorite cd ever.
8. Be confident. I am definitely attracted to females that exude confidence.
7. Be ambitious. This falls right in line with confidence. Most females that are very confident are extremely ambitious. I am a competitive person so I love a girl that has goals and are really driven.
6. Be creative. If you can write, draw or express yourself in some type of artistic manner...I'm all yours!! I LOVE females with creativity.
5. No make up. I like natural beauties. I am a simple guy and I like simple girls. If it takes you more than 1o mins to get ready, you and I won't work.
4. Be intelligent. No dumb chicks. It's that simple.
3. Be able to cook me a good meal. It's so cliche, but it's so true. Cook a nigga some good pork chops and I will love you forever.
2. Be family oriented. I need a girl that has an understanding of the importance of family.
1. Be Cassie. As long as she doesn't open her mouth to sing, she's my diamond girl!!

Eight things I want to do before I die...

8. Go see a Duke basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
7. Help my mother retire.
6. Publish a collection of short stories.
5. See Mos Def and The Roots perform. I've seen all of my other favorites but still haven't seen these two.
4. Visit California
3. Find my swagger and purpose.
2. Get married and have a child.
1. Travel to Africa. It's sad how so many "African-Americans" know so little about Africa.

Seven ways to annoy me...
7. Play any song featuring T-Pain. Well expect "The Boss" with Rick Ross, I actually like that song.
6. Ask me what homework you missed 2 days before grades are due for the quarter. That really annoys me.
5. Display a total lack of manners.
4. Ask me stupid ass questions.
3. Take my kindness for weakness.
2. Make a suggestion on how I should spend my money.
1. Lie to me.

Six things I believe in...
6. Barack Obama
5. Life is short.
4. Karma - "you do dirty, you get dirty"

a few reasons...

If you've been following my blog I'm sure you are absolutely sick of hearing me talk about this new Dwele album. But you have to understand I've been waiting for this since I saw him perform last summer, when he said that new music would be dropping in October. So this is long overdue but it is perfect summer time music. Go out and support good music!

you should really listen...

Jesse Boykins III "Tabloids"

My homie Heather has been promoting this dude for a while now and even though I trust that Heather would never lead me astray, I never really checked for dude...until now. Jesse Boykins III released his Dopamine EP a few months back and I finally gave it a good listen yesterday. It's finally up available on Itunes so I suggest you invest a few dollars is this EP because it's definitely worth it.

free...

It's over. I am officially relieved of my duties as a history teacher for the 07-08 school year!! My first year went off without me choking a kid out so I'm pretty happy about that. Even though I admit I came pretty close to losing my cool. Those kids will drive you crazy! But I'm actually proud of myself for completing the year. Now all my hard work pays off as I get to spend the next 2 1/2 months sleeping in and enjoying this wonderful DC weather. Maybe teaching isn't so bad after all.

tease poster, huh??

This is for Desy and inspired by one soulful negro.

1. So I chaperoned the prom last night. It's so weird seeing my kids grind their sweaty bodies against one another. AWKWARD!! Some of these girls are gonna get turned out next year at college!

2. I love Sundays...my bed...my laptop...OnDemand movies all day.

3. Speaking of movies, I'm only watching I Now Pronounced You Chuck and Larry because of Jessica Biel! OH MY!

4. Watched Brown Sugar last night. That movie NEVER gets old. Thinking about changing the name of my blog to SEARCHING FOR SINDEY SHAW.

5. I'll get over her. Slowly, but surely.

6. In 3 years I will be purchasing a loft somewhere in DC. That is my ultimate goal right now and it's time to start focusing all my efforts on achieving this goal.

7. I need a summer job, and it looks like I'm going back to retail. I had an interview with Express but they haven't called me back yet.

8. I'm seriously considering getting a new tattoo covering up my old one.

9. I really need to revamp my summer wardrobe. I bought a ton of GAP v neck tees but I need to step up my POLO game.

10. I've almost finished reading This Year You Write Your Novel...a must read for people with interest in writing fiction. Thanks to Iesha for the suggestion.

11. Am I the only one that is sick of the "T-Painization" of urban music right now?? Where's the originality?? Even Kanye has jumped on the bandwagon!

12. "we don't know, what tomorrow holds for this love thing...maybe things will be stronger between you and I, regardless we'll just take things one day at a time"

13. Can't wait for the DC Caribbean Carnival at the end of the month. Just hope it wasn't as hot as it was yesterday.

14. Why in the hell is it soooo hot???

15. Ok, maybe this Chuck and Larry movie is kinda funny.

16 more days until the new dwele drops!!

j*davey baby!!

The show last night was incredible!! It was hot as shit but J*Davey put on a hell of a show. I even made my way on to the stage; that was definitely the highlight of my night. If they come anywhere within a 50 mile radius of you, go see them!! It's worth the gas money. Check the clip below for one of my favorite songs.

prove me wrong.

I admit; I was apprehensive, scared, doubtful. I still have doubts but I never doubted YOU. I never doubted what YOU represent. I never doubted US. I just feared THEM. I know their game, and you do too. They are the ultimate hustlers, the world's greatest swindlers. But YOU managed to maneuver past all the bullshit they placed in your path. YOU made history.

But now the race has truly begun and I'm still doubtful. Prove me wrong.
