award tour...

When I was in the 7th grade I was fortunate enough to spend a week in London and Paris. It was my first and last trip out of the country and thanks to my "old age", most of the memories from the trip have been lost in the aging abyss that is my mind. In the past year or so I've talked a lot about traveling but haven't made any moves. Starting today I've made it my mission to plan a trip for this summer (one of the few perks of being a teacher, summers off).I've been doing research with several travel agencies online and I'm surprised to see how relatively inexpensive it is to travel outside of the US. Here's a list of places I am considering

Overseas - This trip probably won't come into fruition until '09 but when traveling overseas planning early is critical.

1. Dubai
2. Tokyo
3. Ghana

US - Here's a list of more likely destinations for '08

1. New York City - Haven't been to NYC since I was like 12 and considering the fact that they have buses traveling from here in DC for $35 roundtrip. It's highly likely I will spend some time in NYC this summer.

2. Los Angeles - I've never been to the West Coast and besides Vegas, LA is number one on the list for West Coast destinations.

3. Philly - Philly is only a few hours away from DC so it's possible to plan a quick weekend getaway.

Sidebar: Does anyone know anything about STA Travel or Contiki Tours??? They seem like good deals but I was just wondering if anyone out there has personal experiences with either agency

  1. I utilized STA travel, and it was pretty good. I had a wonderful trip and everything was really well organized.... Which is partially due to my hatred of being discombobulated on a trip...lol

Are you going to travel alone?

  3. I did a mixture between a toured vacation and some back packing (since I had some extra time). I went through most of Western Europe.. Most of my time spent in England since I have a great deal of friends that live all over that country... Part of my travels were with one friend and the rest of the group on the same tour, and the rest I did alone (but staying with friends)... It was an awesome experience

  4. t.r.b - I have heard nothing but good things about Dubai. I know that it is quickly becoming a popular tourist destination and I am interested in the uniqueness of the city.

  6. driving to new york ain't bad at all esp. from dc. i've made 2 trips in the last 2 months. only takes about a tank of gas each way. much more comfortable than a bus.

sta travel had offices at uva so i'm supposing they are pretty legit and a sound choice for travel needs.

never been to philly, but i heard that the largest mall in america is near there. it's called prussia or essex or something euro like that.
