I'll start by saying Robert Townsend is a talented filmmaker and director (Five Heartbeats was the shit). With that said, Meteor Man is the dumbest movie I have ever seen. Seriously. I woke up this morning, turned on the television and was treated to a scene from Meteor Man featuring James Earl Jones with a high top box. I understand the premise was to show a black superhero and I applaud Townsend for his ambition, but seeing Big Daddy Kane, Don Cheadle and Debo as members of a street gang with blonde hair just isn't very convincing. I remember really liking this movie when I was a kid...or maybe that was Blank Man. Either way, now that I'm older I can honestly say this movie sucks. But its still funny seeing James Earl Jones' hair...and if you don't think so, try watching this youtube clip without cracking a smile. Gotta love the 90s!
Oh shit...that was certainly not a good look for James. I died somewhere around the 00:15 mark. I remember this movie coming out on my birthday and I was upset because no one would take me to see it. Perhaps they were looking out for my best interest.

ReplyDeleteI love this movie! It's so bad, it's hilarious. It is supposed to be stupid, but I remember when it first came out, it scared the shit out of my younger sister when that meteor melted into his chest!
