hip hop is boring...

Hip hop is super boring right now. Seriously. I can't even think of five hip hop songs that I like right now. What makes it worst is the fact that I'm only looking forward to a couple of records to drop; The Roots in April and Nas' Nigger, if that ever sees the light of day. In the absence of hip hop, J*Davey has been getting alot of burn in the iPod lately. So what do I do when there is no quality hip hop to listen to?? Well I scour myspace for anything that sounds remotely interesting. What I found was a young lady by the name of Sy Smith. Though her sound resembles that of J*Davey, Sy stands alone as her own artist. Apparently, Sy has been around for some time, appearing in GAP commercials and even in a small role on that Ally McBeal show. How come I have never heard of this chick until today?? She's the former lead singer of the Brand New Heavies, has sang background on American Idol and even has a duet with Al Green for that old Soul Food show that came on Showtime. I guess today was a good day for me to discover her because she's hosting her album release party on Mar. 26th here in DC. The songs on her myspace page are cool but nothing beats live music. If your in the area, go check her out at Bohemian Caverns on U Street, I'll probably be in the building.

  3. I can't listen to the song right now, and I'm older than you, so I pretty much throw in some old school hip hop when I feel the need. What I have listened to lately is the Lupe and Scarface last albums.

  8. Yo, I wrote about the same thing not to long ago. There is nothing to get excited about anymore. That is why I stay listenin to all of my old collection. After Jay and Lupe dropped, everything else just took a nose dive.

I can't wait for Wale and Nas to drop those are two albums I am looking forward to. Long Live Real Hip-Hop!
